Dr Caroline Surmann is Head of Unit "Digitalization and Internationalization in Education" at DLR Project Management Agency (DLR-PT). In that position she is offering strategic consulting mainly to the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in the fields of Digitalization and Lifelong Learning. The unit is responsible for the development and implementation of large scale funding lines pairing researchers and practitioners for triggering innovation through digital technologies in education for BMBF. A recent developing focus of her work is to offer counseling to foreign ministries on educational matters, currently in China. As a young team leader she is involved in shaping an organizational culture around cooperative leadership at DLR-PT. Caroline Surmann holds a magister degree with a major in roman culture and languages and minors in economics and public law having studied in Bonn, Paris and Lisbon. She obtained her binational doctoral degree in French Literature and Culture focusing her research work on avant-garde esthetics and new media from the Universities of Paris Sorbonne (Paris IV) and Bonn. She was supported therein by the German merit foundation of the gifted, the Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes.
